Swedish Additive Manufacturing equipment maker Arcam AB has reported a sales increase of 70% in the first quarter 2014, with earnings also improving significantly compared to the first quarter of 2013. Sales for the quarter were stated as SEK 64.9 million with profit of SEK 3.6 million. Profit for the first quarter of 2014 is loaded with non-recurring costs associated with the acquisition of AP & C of about six million, added the company.

In February Arcam acquired metal powder producer AP&C from Raymor Industries in Canada. AP&C is a leading manufacturer of high quality metal and supplier of titanium powder for Arcam since 2006. “Titanium powder is an important part of our offering with the acquisition of AP & C we have secured access to the best technology for the production of high quality metal for our customers,” stated Magnus René, Acam CEO.

“Efforts to industrialise our technology with the major players in the aerospace and implant industry continues and we see good opportunities for volume orders during the year. At the same time, we see the growing interest and increased knowledge of Additive Manufacturing and 3D printing gives us the contacts with new customers in new industry segments,” added René.

The company reported that it has almost doubled its number of employees, from 55 in March 2013 to 109 as of March 2014. In addition to the acquisition of AP&C the company has expanded its service office in China and increased its support department in Sweden.

“With 13 machines in the order, a stable aftermarket and an improvement in business conditions are favourable for continued strong growth in 2014,” stated René.
