Bosch, whose U.S. headquarters are in suburban Detroit, has announced plans to expand a U.S. plant in Dorchester County, South Carolina, to produce diesel and gasoline fuel injectors, antilock brakes and electronic stability control systems, all of which can be users of powder metallurgy (PM) parts. The $125 million expansion will be managed by Robert Bosch GmbH and will add 300 jobs. Production is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2011.

The plant, which has operated since 1974, currently employs 1,500 workers (Automotive News Europe December 15, 2010). Bosch ranks 6th on Automotive News’ list of the top 150 North American auto suppliers, with estimated sales in North America of $3.33 billion in 2009.
