Call for papers issued for Tungsten2021 event

August 28, 2020

The Metal Powder Industries Federation (MPIF) has issued a call for papers for the 10th International Conference on Tungsten, Refractory & Hardmaterials (Tungsten2021) scheduled to take place at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin, in Orlando, Florida, USA, from June 20–23, 2021.

The four-day event is co-located with the conferences PowderMet2021: International Conference on Powder Metallurgy & Particulate Materials, and Additive Manufacturing with Powder Metallurgy (AMPM2021).

It has been seven years since the last tungsten conference organised by the MPIF, and numerous developments have taken place in the intervening years. The most notable of these being the advance in Additive Manufacturing using refractory metals and alloys, and their carbides, states the MPIF.

There has also been a notable initiative, driven by concerns for the environment, safety, and health (ESH), toward the development of cobalt-free carbide and alloy compositions. The time period has also seen growth in the interest of field-assisted sintering technology (also called spark plasma sintering) of refractory metals and carbides.

Further, there has been advancement in the particle deposition method called cold spray for refractory materials. Interest in nanocrystalline materials remains high and there have been several interesting developments in the area of nano-phase refractory metals and alloys.

With these developments in mind, the MPIF is calling for technical papers or posters to be considered for inclusion in the 2021 technical programme.

The abstract submissions deadline for Tungsten2021 is November 13, 2020. Further information and submission guidelines are available via the event website.
