Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL), Ningde, China, recently highlighted the capabilities of its second-generation Shenxing Superfast Charging Battery. It is reportedly the first lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery with an 800 km range and a 12 C peak charging rate. LFP battery production relies on iron powder as a precursor material.

The battery’s peak charging power of 1.3 MW allows it to achieve 2.5 km of range per second of charging. In low-temperature environments of -10°C (14ºF), the latest Shenxing Superfast Charging Battery can reportedly charge from 5% to 80% state of charge (SOC) in fifteen minutes – 100% faster than the industry’s highest current charging level.

The second-generation Shenxing Superfast Charging Battery is said to maintain an output power of 830 kw even in a low-charge state: in -10°C at low charge, the battery is still said to meet the power requirements for rapid 0-100 km/h acceleration.
