Development of hybrid PEEK/sintered bearing

NTN Corporation, of Osaka, Japan, has developed a new sliding bearing by combining PEEK resin with sintered metal. The “Hybrid PEEK Bearing” has a unique range of properties including excellent load capacity, good heat dispersal, low friction and good wear resistance.
The sliding bearing is formed by injection moulding PEEK resin material (0.5 mm thickness) into the bore of a sintered metal bushing. The anti-seizing and friction/wear properties, it is claimed, are superior compared to a standard fluorine resin bushing.
NTN expect to begin production of their “Hybrid PEEK Bearings” for use in room air conditioner compressors starting in 2011. The company also plan to develop the product for industrial machinery and automotive industries, for transmission support bearings used in earth moving equipment and AT/CVT applications.
