The European Commission has announced its call for proposals for the 2013 Work Programme of the Seventh Research Framework Programme (FP7), with co-funding totalling €8.1bn.

The European Council for Automotive R&D (EUCAR) has welcomed this announcement and the opportunities that this provides to its members, the 14 major European automotive manufacturers, and their research partners. Automotive research opportunities include the European Green Cars Initiative, ICT for Mobility and Factories of the Future.

EUCAR’s members are currently involved in about 60 EU projects, collaborating with automotive suppliers, universities, research centres and SMEs to leverage broad international expertise and create valuable results for further innovation. The European Commission’s in-depth consultation and partnering with stakeholders ensures alignment with societal challenges and industrial needs.

As the final call for proposals of FP7, this represents a transition towards Horizon 2020, the Framework Programme for Research and Innovation from 2014-2020.

The European automobile manufacturers are the largest private investors in R&D in Europe with over €26 billion investment per annum, or 5% of turnover. EUCAR members are BMW, DAF, Daimler, Fiat, Ford of Europe, GM/Opel, Jaguar Land Rover, Porsche, PSA Peugeot Citroën, Renault, Scania, Volkswagen, Volvo Cars and Volvo Group. EUCAR is closely connected to ACEA, the European Automobile Manufacturers Association
