Federal Mogul Shanghai Bearing Co., Ltd. and Federal Mogul Shanghai Compound Material Co., Ltd. were formed by Federal Mogul Corp and Shanghai Huayu Automotive Industry Co., Ltd. (Huayu) in February 2000 and in 2007 respectively. The two joint ventures mainly manufacture bearing, bushing and thrust plates for petrol, diesel and industrial engines. Huayu is a subsidiary company of Shanghai Automotive Industry (Group) Corp. (SAIC).

Federal Mogul and Huayu together invested ¥380 million to the new plant, which is expected to be completed in November 2013. When the two JVs move to the Intelligent Industry Zone before December 2014 to operate in the new plant, Federal Mogul’s engine bearing lines in China will increase from the current 6 to 10, which will largely expand its output capacity.

According to Wong Weibo, vice president of Federal Mogul China Co., Ltd., Federal Mogul Shanghai Bearing Co., Ltd. achieved an average sales growth of 30% for the previous three years and the company is becoming one of the bearing industry leaders in the Chinese market.
