Sintered aluminium heat sinks offer unique

geometric shape and design possibilities

GKN Sinter Metals recently exhibited at the 2012 LED Show in Las Vegas, USA, a conference and exhibition focused on the fast-growing lighting design and technology segment of the LED industry.

On display at GKN’s booth were the company’s powder metallurgy aluminium alloys for heat sinks in LED lighting applications.

GKN offers a series of aluminium metal alloys that provide a range of benefits over traditional die-cast and extruded materials in thermal management applications. With 50% greater thermal conductivity over traditional die-cast alternatives and greater design freedom, they can offer an alternative to the more expensive copper products.

The alloys are made from a powder aluminium material that can be manufactured to various shapes and sizes to match standard thermal designs and can be customised to meet the criteria of most nonstandard shapes.

GKN’s aluminium materials gained a lot of interest from attendees at the show and the company stated that it is planning to attend the Strategies in Light event, the world’s largest LED show, in February 2013.
