Handheld analyser from Rigaku allows identification of metals and alloys in harsh industrial environments

Rigaku Analytical Devices, Wilmington, Massachusetts, USA, has announced that its handheld laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) analyser, KT-100 Katana, has successfully passed a number of rigorous durability tests proving its capabilities in harsh working environments. The KT-100 Katana identifies metal alloy grades and is now the world’s only handheld metal analyser to have achieved MIL-STD-810G and IP-54 certification.

Designed for on-the-spot metals classification, the KT-100 Katana provides powerful analytical capabilities offering results in less than 2 seconds. The KT-100 Katana offers unique auto surface preparation with its Drill-Down™ feature and is considerably smaller and lighter than other handheld LIBS analysers currently available.

To guarantee protection against many dusty and harsh work environments the KT-100 Katana underwent strict testing to the United States Military Standard MIL-STD-810G. The tests involved rigorous vibration, shock and drop testing which focused on impact to every angle of the instrument to evaluate its durability and performance when exposed to environmental stress. Having passed these tests, and with an IP 54 rating for use in wet environments, the KT-100 Katana is claimed to be ideally suited to rugged use in scrap yards and fabrication shops.
