The acquisition of HC Starck Holding GmbH, headquartered in Goslar, Germany, by Mitsubishi Materials Europe B.V., a subsidiary of the Japanese Mitsubishi Materials Corporation Group, was formally concluded in December 2024 following the announcement in May. The HC Stark Group includes the tungsten producer HC Starck Tungsten GmbH with production sites in Germany, Canada and China as well as sales offices in the US, China and Japan, the analytics specialist Chemilytics GmbH & Co KG and Chemitas GmbH, which operates the Group’s main site, Metallurgie Park Oker, in Goslar.

MMC Group operates a site in Japan for the recovery and processing of tungsten and manufactures tungsten-based tools, having reportedly purchased products from HC Starck Tungsten for many years.

In the last fiscal year, which ended in March, the company generated sales of around €9.7 billion and employed around 18,300 people.

Dr Hady Seyeda, CEO of the HC Starck Group, shared, “The change of ownership opens up new, promising prospects for the strategic development of our Group. On the one hand, our recycling capabilities fit perfectly with MMC’s declared aim of focusing on particularly sustainable activities. On the other hand, forward integration into MMC’s metal-processing value chains promises considerable synergy effects.”

Shigehiko Iwahori, CEO of MMEU, added, “This merger brings together two companies that both pursue the goal of a circular economy for valuable raw materials. By combining our strengths, we can further expand our market position and achieve synergies.”
