JPMA reports drop in PM production in Japan in 2019

The Japan Powder Metallurgy Association (JPMA) has reported a drop in Powder Metallurgy production in Japan for 2019. The JMPA states that total PM production in Japan reached 93,930 tonnes in 2019, a decline of 3.6% over the previous year. 

Production of structural PM parts was also said to be down 2.7% to 86,194 tonnes, with PM self-lubricating bearing production falling by 13.2% to 5,822 tonnes. Sintered friction materials totalled 683 tonnes, down 11.9%. 

Electric current collector production is reported to have fallen by 36.9% to 41 tonnes, and other remaining PM products totalled 1,190 tonnes, a drop of 10.5%. The total sales value of all PM products is said to have reached Yen 86,194 million, a fall of 2.7%.

According to the JPMA, iron powder shipments for PM applications totalled 108,562 tonnes in 2019 whilst copper-based powder shipments reached 4,249 tonnes.
