Kia Georgia’s West Point plant to produce all-electric SUV in 2024

Kia Motors Corporation, based in Seoul, Korea, is investing more than $200 million in its only US manufacturing plant, Kia Georgia, located in West Point, Georgia. The investment will enable the assembly of the all-electric EV9 three-row SUV, set to become the fifth model to be assembled at Kia Georgia, joining the Telluride, Sorento, and Sportage SUVs, as well as the K5 mid-size sedan. The project is scheduled for completion in Q2 2024 and is expected to create almost 200 additional jobs.
The EV9 will be the first electric vehicle for Kia to be assembled in North America. “Like Telluride, EV9 has the potential to be another ‘game changer’ for Kia,” shared Sean Yoon, president & CEO, Kia North America and Kia America. “This will be the most sophisticated vehicle that we have ever built and will be a standout in the EV market and on the road. Best of all, it will be assembled in West Point, Georgia.”
Commenting on the news, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp stated, “Georgia’s longstanding partnership with Kia has led to generational job creation and growth for the West Point area. As a national leader in the automotive industry, I am proud of Kia’s continued impact on the Peach State. As we noted earlier this year, this project will both bring more opportunity to hardworking Georgians and help propel the state toward our goal of becoming the e-mobility capital.”
