Metaldyne, LLC has announced that it has received a General Motors Supplier Quality Excellence Award for the performance of its plant in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico. GM was the first customer for which Metaldyne Mexico supplied fully machined powder forged connecting rods.

The recognition was given by the GM Mexico Powertrain Division to specific locations of their top-performing suppliers, based on performance between July, 2011 and June, 2012. Suppliers who received the award must meet or exceed a stringent set of quality performance criteria and have the cross-functional support of the entire GM organization. All recipients must also be Quality Supply Basics (QSB) certified.

Metaldyne’s Ramos Arizpe plant earned a flawless score on quality performance, with zero PRR (problem report resolutions), zero PPM (parts rejected per million) and 100% on-time delivery, as well as support from the GM purchasing department and design release engineers.

“This award represents the dedication to operational excellence, continuous improvement, and best-in-class quality that is shared by the employees at our Ramos Arizpe, Mexico operation,” stated Thomas Amato, President and CEO, Metaldyne. “We deeply appreciate GM’s acknowledgment of the Metaldyne Ramos Arizpe team’s efforts.”

Since the first GM connecting rod machining program in 2002, GM’s confidence in Metaldyne powder forged machining capabilities has steadily increased. To date, Metaldyne has forged and machined over 24 million rods for GM.
