Applicon Co., Inc., based in Indianapolis, USA, has introduced a new dual axis blender for portable bins that the company claims provides fast, thorough blending of cylindrical or rectangular bins, or FIBCs. Designs are available for bins ranging from 30 to 100 ft3, up to 86” tall, round or rectangular, and for bin weights up to 15,000 lb.

PortableBinBlender

The inherent strength of a cylindrical bin is required for very heavy powders (as shown for metal powder 280 lb/cf), but a cylindrical shape doesn’t promote cross flow very well, states Applicon. The company’s two-axis blender guarantees a homogeneous mix in a short time, whether the bin is cylindrical or rectangular. Two axes of rotation also preclude the re-segregation that might occur in batches that have either dissimilar particle size or dissimilar density.

The blender can be loaded directly by fork lift or by an infeed table which can also accommodate bins placed by overhead crane. Failsafe retention of the bin and perimeter safety barrier (not shown in the figure) insure safe operation without sacrificing the speed of the blending cycle.
