During a recent sales meeting, Plansee HPM, a business area of the Plansee Group, Reutte, Austria, has planted climate-resistant leaf and needle trees in the forest above Lake Plansee to celebrate achievements made in the previous year. The planting was done in collaboration with the Klimafitter Bergwald Tirol initiative and the municipality of Breitenwang.

“Our colleagues from all over the world look forward to come to Reutte every time – not only because of the meeting, but also because of the impressive nature. That’s why we deliberately combine this event with local projects. We are proud to once again be part of this important reforestation campaign,” stated Andreas Feichtinger, Managing Director at Plansee.

The participation in this campaign supports Plansee’s wider sustainability goals; the company has set itself the goal of reducing absolute greenhouse gas emissions in the areas of Scope 1 and 2 by 75% by the 2030 financial year compared to the base year 2020. Targeted measures have already reduced emissions by more than 20% compared to 2020.

Responsibility for the region and the environment

The aim of the reforestation initiative is to make Tyrolean mountain forests more resilient to the consequences of climate change. Monocultures, which are increasingly suffering from drought and pest infestation, are being replaced by species-rich mixed forests. Tree species that contribute to the long-term stability of the mountain forest are planted, including Swiss pines, larches, sycamore maples and beeches. The 7,500 young trees will be professionally cared for and protected from wildlife browsing for the first ten years so that they can grow into a new protective forest.

“As a globally active company, it is essential for us to support projects in our immediate vicinity that benefit the region – not only to protect our infrastructure, but also to contribute to local safety and quality of life,” explained Ulrich Lausecker, Managing Director at Plansee. “We take responsibility – for the environment, for the region and for future generations.”
