Swedish iron powder producer Höganäs AB has recently updated three of its free to access PM handbooks. The comprehensive guides provide an excellent source of data and figures relating to key areas of the Powder Metallurgy process.

The handbooks, which are primarily used as teaching material at Höganäs PM Schools and Metallurgy Schools, are available to download free of charge from the Höganäs website

Materials and Powder Properties looks at the material science, production of iron and steel powders and the characteristics of iron and steel powders. It provides information essential to the understanding of basic processes in Powder Metallurgy. There is a short history of iron powder it describes in detail the two production methods which together account for more than 90% of today’s world production of iron and steel powders.

Production of Sintered Components focuses on the compacting of metal powders, compaction tools, sintering and re-pressing, coining and sizing techniques. It covers the PM process from the initial compaction stage through to improving density and part accuracy with further processing techniques.

Design and Mechanical Properties includes chapters on designing for PM processing, sintered iron-based materials and supplementary operations. This handbook gives examples of preferred design features, along with those to be avoided. It looks at characteristics of sintered iron-based materials for the industrial production of structural parts and identifies additional operations that can offer improved or special properties.

Other handbooks available from Höganäs include: Iron and Steel Powders for Sintered Components, Warm Compaction, Machining guidelines and Metallography. Download from the Höganäs website
