Uralelectromed, OJSC , a subsidiary of Ural Mining and Metallurgical Company in Russia, has announced the expansion of its powder metallurgy production facility. The company, that produces a range of PM products, has installed a new 630-ton-capacity press alongside 14 other presses in a new production unit.

According to RusBusinessNews, a further two presses will be installed this year, with 300 and 400 tons of press force, as well as a sintering furnace made by Cremer Thermoprozessanlagen GmbH in Germany. A total of 100 million rubles will be invested to modernise the production unit.

Uralelectromed produced around 400 tons of PM products in 2011 (+ 6% from 2010). The new equipment will allow production to increase by an additional 10% in 2012. By 2016, the company plans to be producing up to 800 tons of powder products per year.

The company stated that demand for products made from pressed copper powder has increased in the last two years, because of the powder’s precision and surface quality – especially in the field of engineering and the construction of automobiles and electrical goods. The capacity of Uralelectromed’s new production unit will be able to fully meet the needs of Russian and Belarusian manufacturers of low-voltage equipment in electrical connections, contact clips, terminals for low-voltage and high-voltage equipment, and transformers.
