ZF Friedrichshafen AG has announced plans to set up a new testing centre for transmissions at the German company’s R&D Centre located at its Friedrichshafen facility. The Group also aims to move development departments, which are currently spread out across several leased office facilities in Friedrichshafen, to its R&D Centre.

“Strong research and development is fundamental to ZF’s continued success,” stated CEO Dr Stefan Sommer.

The testing centre will be built in the western part of the R&D Centre and be home to test benches and workshops. The plan is to have modular interior fixtures so that the building can be used for various purposes depending on the research and development requirements.

“This design allows us to respond quickly to new developments in metrology and test technology for vehicle parts,” stated Dr Harald Naunheimer, Head of ZF’s Corporate Research and Development. “Particularly in relation to the increasing number of alternative drives it is indispensable to be at the cutting edge of technology and offer customers state-of-the-art solutions.”

ZF uses a number of Powder Metallurgy components in its range of automotive transmissions and other products.
